Swap Some Screen Time for WildTime
British kids have never been more disconnected from the natural world. The roaming distance that children play from their home has shrunk by 90% in 30 years with time spent playing outside down 50% in just one generation. At the same time study after study shows time spent outside in nature increases happiness, health and wellbeing in kids (and adults too!)
There are many reasons why kids are spending less time outside today. Busy roads stuffed with cars, lack of green spaces on our doorsteps, health and safety on steroids, the widespread commercialisation of play and entertainment for starters.
In recent years the rapid spread of screen technology in our homes and on mobile, is also keeping our kids and us a little, er.... distracted. We love technology but we reckon there’s some amazing connections to be made outside.
We are kicking off the launch of Project Wild Thing by encouraging and exploring a very simple everyday action, switch some screen time for some Wild Time.
Turn off the TV, switch off the internet, put down the smartphone, hide the tablet, open the door, look up and get outside.
Just take some daily screen time, a few minutes, an hour or more and switch it to Wild Time = time spent outside.
This is just the start. We have ambitious plans. If you'd like to stay involved, join the movement
